Rain water catchment, filtration and training

Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, is a country rich with natural wonders. From the source of the mighty Nile river to the tallest mountain range in Africa (The Rwenzoris) to Africas largest lake (Lake Victoria). But its greatest natural resource is its war torn people. From the mid 1960’s to the 2000’s Ugandans have survived wars with other African nations, malicious leaders and their coups, and its own genocides in which an estimated 400,000 plus were brutally killed.

A greater problem than war in this region is the lack of safe drinking water. Diseases from unsafe water and the lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Children are especially vulnerable, as their bodies aren’t strong enough to fight diarrhea, dysentery and other illnesses.

In Africa 2.9 million children die every year. That’s 5 children under age 5 every minute. 300,000 are just from diarrhea that is caused by bacteria, viruses, and parasites which lead to dehydration. Most of these diseases are a result of drinking unsafe water and inadequate sanitation.

The techniques we will use are rainwater catchment through the construction of Ferro-Cement tanks, water purification through filtration, PVC hand water pumps, sanitation through building latrines and teaching basic hygiene.

Our projects in Uganda will involve training a community of people, who then will share what they have learned with their neighboring communities. This multiplication process has the potential to impact thousands of people in this region by providing them with clean water.

With your help, we can easily make a major difference in the lives of these people by educating them in simple techniques to provide for their own needs. Disease and death should not be a way of life for anybody.
